Today is a day of firsts.
First 60%, first Topre, first silenced, first time I bothered flipping the spacebar. So far completely worth it. Ironically, the silenced version is the best-sounding. Already far superior to my previous quiet switches, some MX Clears that I never really fell for. Too mushy.

How do you manage without a numpad? I can't function without one.

Sometimes I miss my HHKB.
Then I remember what it was attached to.

Yeah, I use mine 9/8 hours a day in AutoCAD. If you took mine away I’d go nuts. Insane. Crazy. Not in possession of my faculties, three fries short of a Happy Meal,

I’ve got a new keyboard coming today but it’s nothing super exciting:
The soft touch plastic on the
old Logitech diNovo I use with my HTPC
has sort of melted and gotten a lot of dirt embedded in it, so I picked up a K830 to replace it (I would have preferred the trackpadless
K810, but it seemed super overpriced). I’m not sure it’s really the answer for that role though, I predict the tiny arrow keys and lack of a dedicated “Home” cluster may drive me insane.
In any event, I didn’t even check what sort of mechanism it uses, but I’m sure it is some rubber dome one, and probably not a great one at that (I don’t really like the “standard” feel of mechanical keyboards, but this doesn’t strike me as one that will be good for typing on). For HTPC use it will probably be fine though, unless I’m trying to do work on the machine or something. I am looking forward to having a backlit keyboard for this role though.

Don’t get me wrong, I love my full-size boards. All my others are. But day-to-day I don’t really use the numpad at all. I am, however, still very much getting used to no dedicated arrows.

I feel you. Using a Magicforce 68 for a few weeks now, the biggest hurdle has been function keys and home/end needing a modifier. It’s worth the portability though, this goes with me to any working session that’s going to be more than an hour.

Yeah. Once I get back to school I’m looking forward to having something I can A) transport to the library and B) use in the library without driving everyone insane.
